I have been teaching / facilitating the learning of Sage 300 for over 20 years and during that time I have seen the lack of any form of assessment used, by many delivering Sage 300 training.

To understand why I think this is a disservice to the attendees of Sage 300 training sessions you must comprehend what I think are the benefits of assessments.

Assessment is basically asking attendees to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter and is critical to the learning process. I believe it is essential to evaluate whether the educational goals and standards of the Sage 300 lessons are being met.

Therefore, assessments are or should an integral and critical part of Sage 300 instructions. Assessment affects my decisions about the instructional needs of the attendees, curriculum, and the success of the sessions. Assessment inspire all to ask these hard questions:

  • “Are we teaching what we think we are teaching?”
  • “Are students learning what they are supposed to be learning?”
  • “Is there a way to teach Sage 300 topics better, thereby promoting better learning?”

Assessments motivates attendees to thrive for better performance and give them confidence that they are learning and can perform in job-related situations. When you understand what and why the Sage 300 process work it is easier to deal with the how and therefore better able to perform in challenging day to day situations.

As a Total Corporate Learning instructor, I use assessments in my training of Sage 300 and other Sage products.  I have assessments not only base on modules but also on topics within the modules. Also, I employ different types of assessment depending on the medium.

  • Polling when delivering Zoom sessions
  • I can and have deployed different question types – multiple choice, checkbox, true/False, fill in the blank, matching, hotspot, and dropdown, with my online quizzes.
  • Quizzes can be in exam mode (answers are not revealed during the quiz) or practice mode (reveal answers instantly after each question) providing learners with instant feedback and explanation leading to the correct answer. This helps learners’ practice and attain mastery over the Sage 300 topic.
  • Self-Assessments to motivate improved performance.

Human Resources departments understand the importance of assessments before, during and after training, to ascertain is their financial resource are achieving desired results
